National Women's
Day, Liberation Heritage and Tourism Month Celebration |
Ambassador Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya
hosted a National Women’s Day in the context of Liberation
Heritage and Tourism Month in honour of the late Mama
Albertina Sisulu held on 27 September 2011 in Cairo. The
event was attended by African diplomatic corps, women Heads
of Mission, representatives from the Foreign Ministry,
Egyptian civil society and women associations, tour
operators and media.
Ambassador Mayende-Sibiya’s keynote
address focused on the role of the late Mama Sisulu played
in the emancipation of women in South Africa. Speech of Dr
Amany Asfour, President of the Egyptian Businesswomen
Association, focused on working together to enhance women’s
opportunities to economic empowerment. Ambassador Wael Nasr
delivered a message of support on behalf of the Egyptian
Foreign Ministry.
The guests were entertained by a
showcase of South African traditional costumes and dance.
